The Treasure Trove

Magic Items

Listed here are some of the enchanted items appearing in previous Saltwave Campaign adventures. These items do not appear in the DMG, Magic of Faerun, Tome and Blood, or other officially published sources. Most, if not all, are unique items not found in the catalogs of wizardly colleges and libraries. Formula for each of these items is available to members of the Landers Royal Academy of Magic and Science or the University of Voyreem for a price (as a scroll of the caster level x (sum of spell levels included in the item's powers) x 25 gp).

Potions

Potion of Shielding
Gives you a +2 deflection bonus to armor class, as the spell shield of faith, for 3 minutes. Caster level: 3rd, Prerequisites: Brew Potion, shield of faith, Market price: 150 gp.

Rings

Ring of Dispatch
Gives the user the power to magically seal and cast teleport object upon a small item (no more than 8 oz.) three times per day. Only the designated recipient will be able to open a sealed item without destroying it, unless knock, dispel magic, or another scouring spell is applied. Best used for sending messages and other such things. Caster level: 5th, Prerequisites: Forge Ring, teleport or teleport object, Market price: 18,000 gp.

Ring of Spell Conversion (aka Ring of Focusing, Ring of Spell Swapping)
May only be used by those able to prepare and cast arcane spells. This ring allows the user to substitute one of the ring's spell formulae for a prepared spell in time of need. When the wizard begins casting any prepared spell, he may use the ring to convert it into one of the spells of the same or lower level impressed within the ring. He may do this as often as desired. The ring usually comes with these spells impressed: magic missle, mirror image, fireball, dimension door. Other rings may contain any four 1st through 4th level spells. Caster level: 9th, Prerequisites: Forge Ring, Rary's mnemonic enhancer, Market Price: 36,000 gp.

Ring of the Mind Fortress
A Mind Fortress ring gives the wearer immunity from telepathic attack, contact, and influence by psionics or magic. This includes, but is not limited to, domination, psionic attack modes, and all telepathic sciences and disciplines. It does not include such magics as charm, hold, suggestion, or beguiling, as these are mostly verbal, and not telepathic in nature. It will also prevent telepathic communication, such as a sending or dream speech, from reaching the wearer while worn. Caster level: 16th, Prerequisites: Forge Ring, mind blank, Market price: 128,000 gp.

Ring of Minor Wizardry
This useful ring allows its wearer to cast prestidigitation and light as a standard action. It is self-identifying and may be used by anyone who uses the mental command trigger. Caster level: 3rd, Prerequisites: Forge Ring, light, prestidigitation, Market price: 3,000 gp.

Ring of Shielding
The Ring of Shielding negates magic missle attacks against the wearer and provides damage resistance 10/+1 against missles, as the protection from arrows spell. Caster level: 3rd, Prerequisites: Forge Ring, shield, protection from arrows, Market price: 16,500 gp.

Staves and Wands

Staff of Puissant Power
This staff is recharged by absorption, like a staff of the magi. The staff self-identifies and communicates its current charges and powers to its owner. It is a +3 quarterstaff in its usual form, and has the following powers.

  • 0-cost powers: detect magic, light, prestidigitation, read magic.

  • 1-charge powers (all function at 10th level): bolt of fire (10d6), lightning bolt (10d6), bolt of ice (10d6), bolt of acid (10d6), sonic bolt (10d6), dispel magic, haste, slow, tongues, and charm monster.

  • 2-charge powers (all function at 18th level): teleport, weaponry (changes the staff into a +3 weapon of the wielder's choice for up to 18 minutes), analyze dweomer, disintegrate.

Caster level: 18th, Prerequisites: Craft Magic Weapons and Armor, Craft Staff, Energy Substitution, detect magic, light, prestidigitation, read magic, lightning bolt, dispel magic, haste, slow, charm monster, teleport, analyze dweomer, disintegrate, major creation, absorption, Market price: 285,300 gp.

Staff of Dismissal
This staff allows the wizard send away creatures near her. It has two different effects.

  • Teleport other, affecting only a single target within 60 ft. A Will save (DC 18) avoids the effect.
  • Dismissal, affecting one extraplanar creature within 60 ft. A Will save (DC 18, modified by the HD of the creature and the caster level of the staff) negates the effect (PHB, p. 196).

Caster level: 12th, Prerequisites: Craft Staff, dismissal, teleport, Market price: 78,750 gp.

Wondrous Items

Amulet of Harmlessness
This amulet causes the person wearing it to appear harmless and inoffensive to foes. Potential opponents will not attack the wearer until they have dealt with all other targets, as they regard the amulet wearer as no threat. Creatures affected do not lose track of the wearer, but consider his or her activities to be harmless, unless proven otherwise. The power of the amulet is negated for the duration of the encounter when the wearer takes an offensive action. The amulet cannot influence creatures immune to mind-affecting magic. It functions continuously unless disrupted by offensive action. Its power returns again 2d4 minutes later. Caster level: 5th, Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, charm person, suggestion, Market Price: 10,000 gp.

Armor Vest
While appearing to be a simple, but stylish, article of clothing, this magical vest provides excellent armor protection to its wearer. It confers an armor bonus to AC as bracers of armor, and at nearly the same cost. The vest conforms to the size and appearance that its user desires. Caster level, prerequisites, and market price as bracers of armor of equivalent bonus +1,000 gp.

Boots of Upright Stature
When wearing these boots, a person will never fall down or sink into mud, soft ground, or sand. This is no protection against quicksand or liquid, but if it is at all possible for the wearer to retain his balance and avoid the peril, he will do so. Caster level: 3rd, Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, feather fall, Market Price: 2,000 gp.

Bracelet of Scrying
This bracelet has a large cloudy crystal set into the back of the wrist. This crystal allows a wizard to scry as if using a crystal ball. When in use, the crystal is clear and shows the scene being scried. The item takes up the bracers slot on the user's body. Caster level: 10th, Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, scrying, Market price: 42,000 gp.

Foxdarter (rare item - formula only available from Alexander Fuchs)
The standard foxdarter is a special magical ranged weapon. It takes the form of a small pistol-like wand that is easily held and aimed with a single hand. It is a tiny-sized weapon activated by mental command words. The foxdarter is usually made from exotic hardwood or metal and set with a large 5,000 gp ruby in the firing end. The foxdarter emits teardrop shaped pulses of force—orange at the blunt forward end and tapering to a white trailing point, much like a stylized fox's tail. The user must succeed with a ranged touch attack to hit the target. Success causes damage according to the power of the weapon.

  • foxdarter I—caster level: 3rd, range: 130 ft., damage: 2d4+2, market price: 8,100 gp, cost to create: 6,350 gp + 108 xp.
  • foxdarter II—caster level: 5th, range: 150 ft., damage: 3d4+3, market price: 13,500 gp, cost to create: 9,050 gp + 324 xp.
  • foxdarter III—caster level: 7th, range: 170 ft., damage: 4d4+4, market price: 18,900 gp, cost to create: 11,750 gp + 540 xp.
  • foxdarter IIIe—caster level: 7th, range: 170 ft., damage: 6d4+6, market price: 56,700 gp, cost to create: 25,250 gp + 1,620 xp.
  • foxdarter IV—caster level: 9th, range: 190 ft., damage: 5d4+5, market price: 24,300 gp, cost to create: 14,450 gp + 756 xp.
  • foxdarter V—caster level: 5th, range: 600 ft., damage: 5d4+5, market price: 40,500 gp, cost to create: 20,250 gp + 810 xp.
  • foxdarter VII—caster level: 7th, range: 680 ft., damage: 7d4+7, market price: 56,700 gp, cost to create: 25,250 gp + 810 xp.
  • foxdarter IX—caster level: 9th, range: 760 ft., damage: 9d4+9, market price: 72,900 gp, cost to create: 33,350 gp + 1,134 xp.
  • foxdarter X—caster level: 10th, range: 800 ft., damage: 10d4+10, market price: 81,000 gp, cost to create: 37,400 gp + 1,296 xp.
  • foxdarter Xe—caster level: 10th, range: 800 ft., damage: 15d4+15, market price: 135,000 gp, cost to create: 59,000 gp + 4,320 xp

At the option of the user, the foxbolter can deal subdual (stun) damage, instead of lethal force damage. Stun pulses are nearly transparent, instead of orange. Changing between lethal and subdual damage is a free action. The foxbolter self-identifies to its user, informing him of its powers and command words. As an item requiring a hit roll, the foxdarter may be used to sneak attack targets, and its wielder benefits from feats like Point-blank Shot (and related missle feats), Weapon Focus (rays), and Weapon Specialization (if applicable). The foxdarter threatens a critical hit on a natural 20 and allows multiple attacks with a full attack action, if the user has a sufficiently high base attack bonus.

Caster level: as above, Prerequisites: Enhance Spell (for e-version only), Craft Wondrous Item, Subdual Substitution, foxdarts I (for I-IV) or foxdarts II (for V-X), market price: as above, cost to create: as above. The 5,000 gp ruby boosts the effective caster level by +2, allowing the crafter to pay more in materials costs in exchange for a reduced XP cost. Foxdarters with 50 charges, instead of unlimited uses, cost half as much on the market, half as many XP, and (((cost to create - 5,000 gp) x 50%) + 5,000 gp) to create.

Glyph-Handling Gloves (aka Gloves of Portal Safety)
These gloves are light and finely tailored. When wearing these magical gloves, the user will be able to bypass any magical locks, traps, glyphs, symbols, and other wards on things he wishes to open. The magic protections on the item or portal remain in effect, and are not dispelled, but will be as if they did not exist for the person who wears the gloves. The gloves may be used as often as desired. They do not reveal the presence of the protections they bypass, so the user may never know that a particular trap is present. They give no power at all over non-magical locks or traps. Caster level: 12th, Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, antimagic field, Market price: 144,000 gp.

Handkerchief of Health
Remains always clean and fresh, with a pleasant scent of a fresh spring breeze. It provides the effect of a cure disease spell (as a preventive measure) when carried and used regularly. Caster level: 5th, Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, remove disease, Market price: 7,500 gp.

Medal of Valor
This is a decoration such as a valiant knight, military officer, or high official might wear on a dress uniform. When worn openly, it protects the wearer against the effects of magical fear and charm. Caster level: 3rd, Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, remove fear, Market price: 5,000 gp.

Pouch of Voluminous Capacity
The inside of this pouch is the equivalent of a 5' x 3' x 2' steamer trunk in volume (30 cubic feet). Items called forth by a person who knows the command word appear instantly in his or her hands. Caster level: 10th, Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, Leomund's chest, Market price: 12,000 gp.

Shoes of Walking through Walls
These shoes allow the wearer to walk through solid matter for 10 rounds per day at its normal movement rate. The user gains no special powers of vision, so may be unable to see where he is going while within the walls. Caster level: 5th, Prerequisites: Craft Wondrous Item, meld with stone, Market price: 15,000 gp.

Underclothes of Defense
These underclothes are styled for comfort and are intended for wear under ordinary (or magical) outer clothing. When worn together, these garments provide an armor bonus to AC as bracers of armor, and at the same cost. They are not cumulative with other items that give an armor bonus (except for a shield), but remain light, clean, and comfortable in almost any weather. Caster level, prerequisites, and market price as bracers of armor of equivalent bonus +1,000 gp.
