The
Second Five Years
History
of Saltwave LY 2149 - 2153
2149
- Some Changes of Leadership
- The great
dragon, Tysrravya, sponsors missions against the goblinoid raiders of
Kyriabor. In order to make Kyriabor safe for rebuilding, the Lady Dragon
places lucrative bounties on evil humanoids and barbarian raiding tribes.
Many adventurers take up the challenge, and have varying degrees of
success in stemming the raiding.
- Queen
Sally of Amazonia cedes the Pirate Isles of Amazonia to the Elven High
Prince. Harmonist leaders brokered the agreement, in which Amazonia
gained magic and favorable trade terms in exchange for the islands.
- Benshanazzar
the great dragon quashes Komatsine holy war in Qoolm. Benshannazar,
the great dragon who has adopted Qoolm as a protectorate, uses his influence
and power to destroy the fighters and supporters of the Komatsine holy
war throughout Qoolm. Declaring, "Your time has passed, as your
prophet said it would. You are no longer relevant and this behavior
will not be tolerated," the dragon orders the militants disarmed
and banished. Many Komatsine supporters cease their fighting and gather
in the provinces where the local lords still support the faith. Others
resist and are killed or banished.
- Racial
balance is declared worldwide. A survey of nations finds human and demihuman
racial mix to be equally varied across nations. This is a surprising
find for places like Honura, Deeyam, and Jaastenland, where distinct
human racial subgroups had been common for centuries. While still representing
a distinct minority, demihumans are almost equally dispersed and represented
throughout the civilized nations, as well. Scholars who conducted the
three-year census conclude that the Red Plague did much to even out
racial differences worldwide. This surprising conclusion is supported
by the facts, despite public outcry in some areas.
2150
- The Great Dragons Act
- Goblinoid
races continue to plague civilized areas. A number of powerful warlords
have arisen in different areas, sponsored by dark powers. These leaders
prove difficult to overcome, and the humanoid menace grows.
- The great
dragon Uvikfarnis declares herself ruler of the Southern Patriarchies.
After many decades of controlling the kzinti from behind the scenes,
the great dragoness does away with the illusion that the Patriarchs
hold any real power. Uvikfarnis sends her feline subjects on voyages
of exploration and conquest. It is revealed that the Southern Patriarchies
have many more kzinti than might otherwise be expected, as the dragon
has had selective food production and eugenics programs in place for
nearly seventy years to strengthen the Southern breed of kzinti.
- Qoolm
and Deeyam enter alliance. The great dragon leaders of the two nations,
Benshannazar and Ysmeeris, enter into an alliance. Popular speculation
holds that romantic interests between the dragons are at the center
of the pact, but this is most commonly expressed outside of Qoolm and
Deeyam.
- Kzinti
of the Southern Patriarchy raid cities of the southeastern Prreshtuwan
Federation. Crossing the ocean to invade the prrexi nation, the Southern
Kzinti attack three coastal cities. The feline prrexi suffer significant
losses to kzin steel and magic before driving the invaders back to the
sea. The kzinti loot many craft and guild halls, apparently trying to
learn the secrets of the prrexi technology.
2151
- How the Mighty Have Fallen
- The great
dragon, Karnissariath, takes control of the Western Patriarchies. Karnissariath
challenges and defeats several influential kzin lords to gain leadership
of the independent Western Patriarchies. He begins consolidating and
unifying the patriarchies, using much the same strategy that K'zar-Kiir
did in the previous ten years.
- An ancient
artifact possesses a necromancer and starts a war in the Forbidden Lands
of western Jaastenland. The trapped spirit of a powerful magic circlet
takes control of the necromancer, Max Dommoje, when he tries to control
its powers. In a short time, the evil master raises an army of the dead
to conquer Lebensbrüke. The archmage Dark Schniedar uses a huge
metal golem to stop the army and the necromancer himself, but the golem
is all but destroyed in the process. Neither Dark Schniedar, Max Dommoje,
nor the circlet are found.
- Te-Qal
becomes a predominantly half-elven nation. The islanders of Te-Qal and
the Saltwave Outlands have been mixing with elven blood for many years
and now the number of half-elves for the first time exceeds that of
human tribespeople. The reputation of the islanders as exceptionally
friendly hosts has brought elven voyagers to Te-Qal for more than a
century. While the elves are fond of their halfbreed children, they
remain aloof and leave their children with the tribes. Te-Qal tribes
welcome all children into the tribe, without regard for parentage. This
custom has made Te-Qal a virtual breeding ground for half-elves. Many
of elven blood now come from second or third generation half-elven families.
- The Brotherhood
of Thought strikes at Lebensbrüke from its secret hideaways. The
Brotherhood of Thought, a secret society of racial supremacists, was
never completely defeated. Now strengthened and rebuilt in the shadows,
it strikes out at its old enemy. A wave of assassinations and terrorist
attacks nearly paralyzes the government with fear. Queen Anissette orders
that action be taken to find and destroy the cell leaders of the Brotherhood.
2152
- Some Things are Restored
- Prince
Phoenix Husayn Rashad of Qoolm makes a claim for the throne. The young
prince, long thought dead with his family, secretly gains entrance to
Benshannazar's throne room and makes his claim for the throne of Qoolm
upon his eighteenth birthday. After some consideration and negotiation,
the great dragon accepts the prince's request. Prince Phoenix will be
mentored by the dragon for three years, until his twenty-first birthday,
when he will be crowned.
- Actions
against the Brotherhood of Thought cripple the organization. As a result
of the diligence of Lebensbrüke citizens and officials, many members
of the Brotherhood of Thought are captured or killed. The organization
ceases its open attacks and goes even further underground to avoid complete
destruction.
- The Honura
samurai code of Bushido is restored. The great dragon Panitoko finishes
her restoration of the warriors' code with her appointment of a traditionalist
to the post of Shogun. The renewed emphasis on obedience, excellence,
and honor anchor the social structure of Honura in the past as it moves
toward the future with technology and industry.
- Lord Nigel
Frobisch is appointed Dean of the College of Wizardry in Norton. The
Archmage, Lord Nigel Frobisch, is appointed to the post of Dean by the
Circle of Headmasters. Lord Nigel vows to uphold the traditions of scholarship
and art of the College.
2153
- New Leaders Become Known
- The great
dragon Zkydraksis gains virtual monopoly on merchant shipping. Through
shrewd planning, bargaining, and concealment of his true holdings, the
great dragon Zkydraksis gains near monopoly status in most major ports
from Honura to Deeyam. More than 60% of merchant shipping companies
with five or more vessels are owned in whole or part by the dragon or
his agents. As the dragon's companies also control most ports' administration,
fee structures naturally favor his own ships, and take a larger bite
out of the potential profits of rival companies.
- The Crown
Princess of Landers weds. The Crown Princess of Landers marries her
long-time betrothed, Sir Lord Daniel Marik Armbruster. The celebration
is an international event, drawing nobles from across the Four Kingdoms,
Lebensbrüke, and beyond.
- An attempted
coup to overthrow K'zar-Kiir is defeated. Not content with a formal
challenge match, an unknown plotter maneuvers a small group of humans
and elves into a plot to depose the Ishan patriarch. The coup is defeated,
but the real power behind the attempt is not identified. The Rrkia-Friday,
The Prophet, tears several of the would-be assassins apart in her defense
of her mate.
- Andaar
Sekkady, a Kraanicher adventurer from the Elantra region, defeats pirates
in the north central region of Jaastenland and captures the port city
of Arkadia. He and his companions move inland and unify the scattered
villages and towns of the region. This leads to the formation of the
Barony of Sekkady early the next year.
- A great
warlord arises from the Gurdish barbarian tribes in Jaastenland. Kal-then
Abbord is proclaimed Khan of the Gurdish tribes of old Kyriabor and
prepares them for war. The city-states of southern Jaastenland bolster
their defenses as the barbarian horde gains numbers. Initial victories
gain Kal-then Khan much territory and spoils before winter sets in.
