A lot
can happen in twenty years. This is even more true when the entire
geography and magical nature of the world is upset by a huge surge
of magical power. These are the events that occured between the
end of the War of Falling Stars and the next generation of player
characters in Saltwave.

2143
- The Year that Started it All
- Kyriabor
is embroiled in a civil war. Begun by half-elven separatists with a
poison gas attack on the Kyriaborean Senate, the country is ravaged
by civil war. The mysterious Brotherhood of Thought manipulates the
war from behind the scenes, using the chaos to gain control of the country
before losing it during the War of Falling Stars.
- Lebensbrüke
declares independence from Smeisserand. Rather than submit to the whims
of the Brotherhood of Thought, Lady Anissette DuKott and her supporters
break with Smeisserand to form a separate kingdom. The short war of
rebellion was handily won by Lebensbrüke, and further attempts
to regain the renegade provinces are forestalled by the War of Falling
Stars.
- The Second
War of Falling Stars is fought, with the evil machines called Sky Golems
ravaging the entire world of Saltwave from high above the sky. The world
gains a moon, but is nearly destroyed as the Sky Golems hammer the planet
with rocks and invading death machines. The Sky Golems also unleashed
the Red Plague, a pseudo-magical disease that causes transformation
of living creatures into new forms. The war is ended by the efforts
of Sir Drake Hedgerton, archmage consort to Queen Anissette, who led
hundreds of valiant adventurers to research and create an artifact of
power to stop the Sky Golems at their source.
- Most
high technology devices become worthless. In the aftermath of Sir Drake's
use of the Dragon's Gift to stop the Sky Golems, all high-technology
devices are drained of power and their circuits ruined. This includes
the blasters of the Sky Golems, the weapons and armor of Sir Drake's
troops and elite units, and the firearms found throughout the industrialized
nations. All are rendered useless by the surge of magic that ends the
war.
- The dwarven
corporate clans move the capital of Technikor to Dwithers. Despite being
struck by falling stars twice, a dinstinction that citizens proudly
trumpet, Dwithers survives the War of Falling Stars with only surface
damage. This apparent miracle cannot make up for the several hundred
thousand killed by the destruction of other cities, but it unifies and
strengthens the dwarvish will. The corporate clans spend much effort
on planning the reconstruction of Technikor and the resettling of refugees.
